The International team will also arrange the induction process to make sure you know where to be and what you have access to at the college and can make the most of your time. The International team will also arrange activities for students to participate in so that you can meet more people and see the local sights. They are also available 24/7 for emergency matters that need urgent attention.
Academic Support
Your college will ensure that you have access to an Academic Tutor who will monitor your progress throughout your time on exchange. They will be able to assist you with any academic issues that you have. If you wish to change a subject, then the staff will assist you to do this (as long as it is not too late in the exchange and space is available on your new course.)
For students who wish to improve their English, colleges also offer additional English Language classes to support your academic progress. Classes are included at some colleges, while other charge an additional fee. This is a great way to improve your language skills in the classroom and make it easier for you to access the curriculum.
Subject Choices
The great advantage of the British educational system is that students have the opportunity to specialise in their subjects of choice, rather than a general education programme like in most other countries. UK universities recognise that A Levels provide the depth of study required in preparation for UK degree courses.
At Brockenhurst College, students can study up to 3 A-Level or vocational courses. Those who wish to study more than three subjects will have to
meet additional entry criteria.
Courses on offer
- A-Levels: the traditional qualifications of the UK which enable entry to University.
- Students can choose 3 A-Level subjects.
- 4th subject is possible for an additional fee and if grades and English level is strong.

- These courses are mostly assessed by coursework and are ideal if you know which career that you wish to pursue.
Brock College has a wide range of subjects available for all students to pursue. To meet visa requirements, students who are staying for just one year, must choose at least one subject that has an external AS exam or vocational assessment. These subjects are marked with an *.

Host Family Accommodation
Brockenhurst College prides themselves on providing a truly British experience for international students, and living with a host family is one of the key components. Living with a host family is one of the best ways to enjoy British culture and lifestyle. You will have the opportunity to get involved in everyday life, from eating together to watching British television together. You will travel to college by bus or train alongside our UK students.
Homestay hosts welcome students into their homes where English is spoken, providing an ideal way for you to practise conversational English outside of college. You will also learn a lot about British culture and daily life.
You will have your own bedroom with a desk, a wardrobe or hanging space, drawer space, a bedside table, and shelves for books and personal belongings. Use of electricity, gas and water and a bathroom will be included as well. Your host family may have a pet, which is very common in the UK. As part of the application process we ask you to give us information about your preferences, which will help us match you with the most suitable host.
All hosts are selected, inspected and monitored. Importantly, all family members must pass a Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check to help assess their suitability.
Host Families provide the following:
- A comfortable and safe environment for students to live in throughout their studies.
- Accommodation located near to college or close to public transport links
- A home away from home – an opportunity to integrate into family life and UK culture.
- The opportunity to develop English language skills through family activities.
- A private bedroom with all furnishings, including a desk and free Wi-Fi.
- Two meals per day, seven days a week, lunch included on weekends.
Accommodation includes all holiday periods.
You can choose how far you live from the college. All accommodation options may not be available if you apply late. Zone A accommodation is limited
and typically within walking distance of the College. Other zones require a journey to College using the good transport links provided by train and college buses.
Brock follows the guidelines of the British Council, which advises that no more than four students should be placed in the same host family accommodation at one time. While they endeavour to place students of different nationalities in Homestay accommodation, this is not always possible
