High School Exchange in Argentina
A place you will never forget
Ethnically and culturally, Argentina is a perfect blend of Latin America and Europe, especially the Italian and Spanish styles. The mixture of different people and cultures has created a rich and unique country, different from the rest of Latin America. Those who visit Argentina will be surprised by its impressive landscapes and natural wonders, which offer unique attractions ranging from the southern Andean mountains to the northern deserts, and from Iguazú Falls to the magnificent wildlife and vastness of Patagonia. Not to be missed!
Life as an exchange student in Argentina
Argentines are very warm, open and friendly, and our students are always surprised to see how they make the most of every situation. They are not afraid to show their emotions, are friendly by nature and are willing to give foreigners the chance to fit in the country, speak their language, and have lots of fun.
Family is a very big part of life in Argentina. The typical Argentine family is composed of a mother, father and two or three children. There is something very special about family and friends gathering on Sundays and enjoying an Argentine beef grilled to perfection. Our students have the opportunity to get to know the extended family very well. Cousins, grandparents, uncles and aunts visit frequently, which makes it easier to get to know other people and learn more about the Argentine culture.
The Argentinean school system
While in Argentina you will join the higher section of the senior school. In most schools this is for ages 15 – 17 years and is known as Ciclo Orientado. Argentina has the highest literacy levels in Latin America and has a strong reputation internationally.
Ciclo Orientado allows students to engage in a more specialised level of study as they can focus on a specific field, such as humanities and social sciences, art and design, natural sciences, economics and business studies and communication. Schools often have three required subjects which are history, a language and geography. You will then be able to make some further choices regarding your subject areas.
The school year starts in March and finishes in November. In July there is a 2 week winter break. Most schools start at 8am and finish around 1pm, which leaves students time to study, explore and spend time with family and friends. Many schools require students to wear uniform.
