Discover Canada from ocean to ocean
Canada is a country that is filled with wonder and delights. For students who enjoy nature and the outdoors, Canada is definitely for you. You can experience the multicultural Quebec or the busy streets of Toronto or the ski hills of Lake Louise or the natural delights of Vancouver Island. There is so much to explore and enjoy.
Special points to note about this program:
- Students from 11-19 can be accepted
- Programs are 5 or 10 months in length
- Some schools can offer 1, 2 or 3 month programs
- Graduation is possible for some students
Life as an exchange student in Canada
On our high school program in Canada, you get to control where you are placed. As a student on this program, you choose the school district that you wish to be enrolled into and so in turn, choose where you will live. Whether you want to learn French or speak English, we have something for you.
MyEducation will present you with a full list of schools and districts that are ready to welcome you and offer you specific things that you need. Whether you want to focus on sciences or history, excel at sports, go to a small school or live in Whistler, our Canadian partner can make this possible. You choose your school and they will find you a host family, who will receive reimbursement for hosting you. With so much choice, you will really get the most from your time in Canada.
The Canadian school system
Schools in Canada vary from province to province. Most Canadian public schools use the semester system from September to January and February to June. Students take between 3 and 5 courses per semester and get to choose completely new subjects each semester. In Quebec and in some private schools, the year is divided into 3 terms and students take between 6 and 9 courses for the entire year.
You will be enrolled in secondary school. If you choose to go to an English area then you will likely be enrolled in a year group with students of your own age. The day will run from 8.30am to 2.30pm and students often join extra-curricular activities after school. School uniform is not required in most public schools, but it is required in some Ontario schools.
On this program, students can choose to study in Canada for more than one year. You can opt to graduate in Canada if you wish to. The most popular districts do fill up quickly each year, so don’t hesitate to get in contact if you have your heart set on going somewhere in particular within Canada.
