Office News October: A busy month and more to come

29th September 2016

Our Swansea students at Orientation

What a hectic few weeks it has been!

Since I last wrote all of our students have arrived, and they have moved in with their new families and started school. Our host families have been making our students welcome and both students and families have been working out their new routines, getting to know their schedules, spending quality time together, enjoying meal times and weekends.

This transition is not easy for anyone. It is likely that our students may have had a nerve wracking first few days at school, and possibly changed their subjects and timetables more than once. Our families will have been trying to be supportive and accommodating whilst ensuring the house rules and routines are understood and followed. For everyone involved it is a time of persistence, patience and adjustment. These are crucial qualities to ensure the exchange programme works and everyone has a great experience.

Myself and Nicky had a wonderful time hosting the orientation sessions and being able to meet our families and students. We had a lot of fun with the wigs and props for some fun photo booth photos. We have also been surprised and pleased that so many students have signed up for our fabulous London Trip in November. It looks like there will be twenty-four of us in total. Watch out London here we come (all wearing sensible shoes that is).

We will continue to support students, Reps and families throughout their exchange, however, we have additional efforts in the MyEducation office over the coming months. We have already received applications for the January 2017 intake so we will start the process of assessing applications and arranging school and family placements. We are also starting major projects to promote and increase our other programmes.

Our Programmes:

GO CAMPUS – this is a programme where British students can apply for university scholarships to attend university in the USA. Students can choose from one year to a full degree and become part of campus life in a new country and culture. One application through MyEducation and Go Campus will be seen by numerous colleges and universities in the US and we guarantee nine scholarship offers, allowing entry to the US educational system at a price that compares with current fees in England. The scholarship will subsidise tuition, room and board and can offer up to 60% off the annual fee.

Overseas High School Exchange – We all know that the UK is one of the most popular destinations on the planet for students around the world to wish to study, but we are excited to have a record number of UK students looking to take part in the overseas exchange programme. All of our available places for the High School Exchange programme in Japan for 2017 have been reserved, in fact we also have a waiting list. We are working with our partners to be able to offer more places. We also have students signing up for Brazil and Germany and our US programme is as popular as ever. We are running information sessions online for anyone who is interested in finding out more.

Intern/traineeship USA – we continue to support and facilitate students who are seeking or have secured a US intern/traineeship. Don’t forget to read about Hayley’s internship experience Hayley's Internship Placement in the USA

Au Pair and Live and Learn are other over 18’s programmes which continue to attract interest. Click here for information on the over 18’s programmes offered by MyEducation UK

We are working hard to launch our Language School Programmes in early 2017. We are excited to be able to offer language experiences for people aged between 12 years and 70 years of age. If you have ever wanted to learn a new language or enhance some long forgotten skills while living in a beautiful country then watch this space.

Next time I write it will be late October and we expect that our new students will be settled into their new routines and becoming part of normal British life. We will be covering and recapping on issues such as expectations and recognising culture shock and homesickness as winter looms and Christmas is only around the corner.

Best wishes,

We are always delighted to hear from anyone who would like to become a Host Family or an Area Representative. For information on both roles check out our Host A Student section on our website or call the office on 0238 0970 924.
